COVID-19 / LIS registration

Register once.
Return with your QR.

During COVID-19, I built a QR-based workflow that registered a patient through the LIS and generated a patient-specific QR code at the end. Patients could save a screenshot and use it to find their existing record when they returned for another test.

Registration & return-visit workflow

First test / Registration

Register through the LIS.

  1. Open the QR-based registration workflow.
  2. Register the patient in the LIS.
  3. Generate the patient-specific QR code.
Patient-specific QR

Save a screenshot.
Bring it to the next test.

Next test / Existing record

Find the patient again.

  1. Use the saved patient-specific QR.
  2. Locate the existing patient record in the LIS.
  3. Continue without re-entering demographics and insurance.

01 / The problem

Repeat testing created repeat paperwork.

Repeated testing created repeated registration work. Returning patients should not have to enter the same demographic and insurance information every time they came back.

02 / My contribution

Connect the next visit to the existing record.

I developed the registration workflow and the patient-specific QR handoff. The first QR-based workflow registered the patient through the LIS; the generated QR then connected the next visit to that existing patient record.

03 / The result

A saved QR. A faster return visit.

Patients could keep a screenshot of their specific QR code and use it on a return visit to be found within the LIS. Reusing the existing record avoided repeated demographic and insurance entry and made repeat-testing registration faster.
